KTWO TV on Casper Mountain
KTWO TV used this tower site on Casper Mountain for about 50 years. The tall tower was custom fabricated and while strong, it is not guyed with torsion arms. On strong Wyoming wind days it would twist and dance. When that happened it also caused the microwave STL/TSL connections to fade out because of the narrow beam. One dish was pointed south to get the network feed from Denver and another north to connect with the studios on east Second Street. At various times it also supported the antennas used by Casper FM stations.
Notice all the power poles and transformers (pole pigs). KTWO TV did not have emergency generators, instead it relied on power from two systems. PPL from the Casper side, and REA from the south, the idea being that they would not both fail at the same time.
KTWO eventually sold the tower and leased back space for their own antenna.
